Heart Children Ireland is a voluntary organisation whose wonderful mission is to always provide support for all who are affected by congenital heart defects (CHD). It was founded in 1991 by a group of parents who met while their children, born with CHD, were being treated in Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin.
Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin is one of the largest hospitals in the world devoted exclusively to children. It is also the national centre for paediatric cardiology. All paediatric cardiac surgery is carried out here and in 2007, 4662 children came to the cardiac outpatients department, 390 cardiac operations were performed and 846 children stayed in hospital with heart problems.
